End of Blogging

January 7th, 2010

Well it seems that blogging didn’t work out so well with all the students in the class. There was just not enough class time to do the work and blog about it; therefore, the teacher has decided it’s best to discontinue the blogging assignment. I’ll be leaving mine up just to show in my portfolio.

Beginning Hovercraft Master Project

October 30th, 2009

This week I started the Hovercraft Master Project. I was chosen to the be president of the group. Our company name is Dunder Mifflin Hovercraft Company. Apparently it’s a reference to The Office. I started out with the history research paper. I learned all about the history of the hovercraft. Wasn’t very interesting but I learned a thing or two. I started on the logo after that. It’s not going too well. I’m hoping I can figure out a way for the hovercraft to look decent in only 2 colors on the shirt. It may take a while.

Some Extra Assignments

October 8th, 2009

So we have some extra assignments to make up for the fact that we only had 2 LAPs for our module. For the first extra assignment I made a brochure explaining all of the days for homecoming week. It turned out pretty nice overall. It had the school colors and a gothic looking font to make it more dark-knight-ish.

The next extra assignment we have to do is the extra LAP. This will basically consist of a few objectives going over applying themes to brochures using Publisher’s wizard. Then there will be a skill having the students try doing it on their own. After that I’ll have to do my career paper on Desktop Publishing. That should take up the rest of my time. Then it’ll be time to take the test and hopefully I get a good grade on it!

Finished up LAP 2

October 5th, 2009

Done with both LAPs of Desktop Publishing now. I am very glad to be done with it too. I got a 94% on my LAP 2 quiz. I only missed 1 question because of a stupid mistake in answering. Oh well. I’m doing better grade-wise than I did on Measurements. Now for the next two weeks I’ll be doing the extra assignments since I had 2 LAPs fewer than all the other modules.

Woah there! Do you know how fast you were going?

October 2nd, 2009

officerWhy yes officer I do. I only have one segment left in LAP 2. I definitely think I need to slow down. Sorry officer. It wont’t happen again.

Yeah as you can see, I have apparently been working way too fast because I only have one segment until I finish both LAPs. I’ll probably be done with the quiz and everything by Wednesday leaving me almost two weeks for my extra assignment and career paper. So far I have 4 pages of notes just on LAP 2. Tiffany has another 3 I think that are on LAP 1. I’m just glad to almost be done with this redundant module. I think I might just do AC/DC next time. I need to stray from the software based modules. It’s definitely my strong point but I seem to not be challenged by any of it.

A Simple Realization

October 1st, 2009

So today I realized something. I hate desktop publishing. I never realized how boring it really is until today. The LAPs all go over the same exact things over and over again. It gets really redundant. It’s all really common sense as well. The most interesting thing i learned today was that you can actually steal fonts. It’s quite amazing to me. The concept of being able to steal a simple grouping of pixels on a screen that make up the letters in the Latin alphabet is just amazing.

Finished LAP 1 of Desktop Publishing

September 28th, 2009

Yeah. I finished it yesterday. Tiffany is still trekkin back on segment 3 typing notes. Those lovely notes that I will most likely not go over. So yeah I took my quiz today after going over all of the self reviews. I didn’t use the notes. I ended up getting an 88%. Not so bad. And yeah I know what you were gonna say… “If you had taken and read over your notes you would’ve gotten a 100%!!!” But I didn’t get a 100%. Oh well. I probably wouldn’t have even with the notes because I would have taken notes on different information.

So the quiz was weird. The questions were kind of obvious and ridiculous. One question was Monotype is _________. The possible answer were Fonts with the same thickness, Fonts with different thickness, A disease caught by excessive kissing, and A levitated train at Disneyland. I picked the Disneyland one. Half of the questions had ridiculous answer like that and I just had no idea why. Oh well. Who am I to complain. It made answering them just that much easier.

Publisher and Stuff

September 24th, 2009

angry kittySo I think that I’m going to be doing my blog posts a bit differently from now on. Looking back, they have been all information and stuff that no one wants to read about in a blog so this time around I’m just going to reflect on the class and give my dearest, most honest opinion on what I had done. So welcome to post number 1 of my mental splurge of information. I have also added a nice little “Reflections” category to put all of my reflections in.

First off, notes. Notes notes notes notes notes notes notes notes. I don’t like the notes. I hate the notes at that. I strongly detest the notes because they occupy my time and all I have to do to get the same information is look back through the LAP books and I still don’t even have the desire to do that. So yeah, not a fan.

On to the module. Desktop publishing is making me angry. All of the terms being used are like five years out of date. It’s really messing me up because I’m used to the terms of 2009. Things change and so should this crappy UI Amatrol program. I may have to write them a letter. I’ll think about that. So far I’ve learned that the f9 key zooms in and out between the original size of the document in Publisher. Great huh? I have gone through four segments now and that’s all I have taken out of it. Well anyways, off to more learning.

Starting LAP 1 of Desktop Publishing

September 21st, 2009

I started up LAP launcher and selected LAP 1 of Desktop Publishing and to my surprise, I was brought to a massive six segment LAP.  Segment 1 starts out explaining the function of desktop publishing software. This wasn’t too much for me to handle. I already knew most of the stuff in here. It went over types of graphic programs and vector and raster based graphics. This was stuff that I had learned last year when I took the Graphic Design module. After that it went over the basic layout of pages made in desktop publishing software. I went on to activity 1 which basically just had me get familiar with the interface of Microsoft Publisher.

New Module

So today we picked our new module and I got my second choice of Inventor. Darien decided to switch out of Desktop Publishing so I switched into that since it was my first choice. Now I’m officially on Desktop Publishing and I’m starting LAP 1 today. This module will be different though because we have to take notes on each objective. Hopefully it doesn’t slow me down too much.
